Still might have some gremlins on the Yosemite side of things, but I'm sure I'll get past it with help from these forums. Now when I hold option at restart and select Windows, I get that black screen with both Windows 7 installations. I was able to add a new entry (E: which contains the preferred W7), moved it up in the sequence and unchecked Default for the small W7 install.
Success! I was right about the bootsequence. When I installed W7 on the small partition, it didn't see a boot file so it made a fresh one and left my drive in bay 4 out of the game. Maybe W7 in bay 4 used the sequence file or a dudalboot file on the XP partition. I keep reading about the order of installations and the bootsequence thing. Later, XP was wiped out and W7 replaced it. As you recall, when with drive in bay 4 was installed with Windows 7, XP was already installed in Boot Camp. This might have something to do with bootsequence. If I have a FAT32 partition, with the install even work at all? Haven't had a chance to try it out yet. I think there is some third part app that can add this capability, but the free version only works with a certain brand of HDD.
Another trick is using Disk Utility, but by default you can't format a NTFS partition. I've read that you start the install process with W7, but then swap out the discs before it gets going. At least with XP there might be some stuff I can't run in W7.Īnyone try out any of the workarounds for XP? Obviously I'll still need the old drivers which I think I still have a CD I burned years ago. I could just install an empty Windows 7, but that seems silly to install Windows 7 so I can boot into another Windows 7. I've read some hacks to get it to work, just haven't tried it yet. The other bummer is be default, Boot Camp in Yosemite won't let me install XP.
I already have a Windows 7 drive in another bay in my tower, but I'm guessing I still need the Boot Camp partition to startup into that OS is that right? Cloning my drive using Carbon Copy Cloner does NOT clone the Boot Camp partition. Well, I learned a new thing the other day.
